Give thanks  l Celebrate l Remember l Nelson Mandela Square presents Carols on the Square – UNDER THE AFRICAN SKY is firm favourite, attracting thousands of people from all across Jo’burg every year.

This year’s Carols On The Square on Sunday, 3rd December 2017 from 17h00 to 19h00 for an unforgettable festive celebration.

Over the years Nelson Mandela Square’s iconic Carols On The Square has successfully mixed traditional carols with performances by South Africa’s best-known performers and bands, resulting in concerts with an exciting mix of pop and tradition, and this year will be no different.

Legendary conductor Richard Cock will again take centre stage, joined by  (Line up & soloists) to combine a vibrant African influence with traditional festive cheer.

Line Up:
Johannesburg Festival Orchestra 16 piece orchestra
Youth Orchestra Members 12 players to supplement orchestra
Rhythm Section 4 Piece Rhythm section

  • Soloists, who will blow audiences away with their rousing performances of traditional Christmas carols and contemporary songs.
  • Monde Msutwana Soloist - Male vocals
  • Nicholas Nicolaidis Soloist - Male vocals
  • Friedal Mitas Soloist - Female vocals
  • Andrew Gilbert Soloist - Solo Violin


So gather your friends and family, clear your throat and join in on the Square for a festive sing-along of your favourite carols. The concert is free and starts at 17h00 until 19h00.

Please arrive early to secure a seat, as seating is not pre-allocated l Dress code is relaxed l Don’t forget a wrap as the performance is al fresco (outside).
