  A South African Art and Food Pairing The opening of the Anton Smit art exhibition at The Menlyn Boutique Hotel which took place on the 16 th of April was well attended, witnessing the first ever South African art and food pairing.  Several of Smit’s art works were paired with decadent canapés created by talented Head Chef Pellie Grobler of The Black Bamboo, The Menlyn Boutique Hotel’s signature restaurant.  The inspirational sculptor will be showcasing his finest works from the past 40 years in an exhibition called ‘In Retrospect’ at various locations of the exquisite hotel.  Encompassing themes of suffering, reconciliation, glory and sublimation, it is easy to see why Smit is an acclaimed South Africa artist.  On the art & food pairing Pellie Grobler explained “incorporating and translating these themes into the food was extremely challenging.  Art is not tangible and is based on personal preference.  Everyone interprets art differently and it was abo
