Jam-packed outdoor entertainment and activities schedule for summer

Cape Town, 17 December 2015 — With summer well upon us, outdoors in the Cape Town sunshine is the place to be. V&A Waterfront visitors can take full advantage of the glorious weather harbour-side these summer months, with a jam-packed line-up of outdoor entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy.

From Zip Zap Circus performances and mini parades from the Cape Town Carnival, to musical entertainment, marathons and cyclathons, there will be something for every sun-loving visitor to the V&A Waterfront.

DECEMBER 2015

The ever-delightful Zip Zap Circus also comes to the V&A Waterfront this December, with a series of performances planned at the Amphitheatre daily at 4pm from Monday, 14 December to Sunday, 20 December. Founded in 1992 and operating as a ‘social circus’, Zip Zap is well-known around town, and will enchant audiences with trapeze, contortion, and acrobatic acts suitable for the whole family.

Friday, 18 December marks the Growthpoint Sundowner Run, beginning at 5pm at Quay 6 and the Amphitheatre. Whether bring a walker, wheelchair, or the family dog – everyone is welcome at the Growthpoint Sundowner Run. The V&A Waterfront’s Summer Sessions performance series begin with SA jazz and Afro-pop singer Judith Sephuma, who takes the mike at the Amphitheatre on Sunday, 27 December at 7pm. The award-winning, much-admired Sephuma is onto her third studio album, having released One World just this year.

JANUARY 2016

Ease into the New Year at the V&A Waterfront, with a schedule that includes Mini Parades and a Teaser Performance from the Cape Town Carnival, a cyclathon, and great local musical acts.

Gearing up for the full carnival performance this coming March, V&A Waterfront visitors can get a taste of the iconic Cape Town Carnival from the Carnival entertainers themselves, with Teaser Performances and Mini Parades scheduled at the V&A Waterfront for Summer. Catch the first teaser performance on Sunday, 31 January at the V&A Amphitheatre from 4 to 5pm.

The Zip Zap Circus returns to the Waterfront in January, holding daily performances at the Amphitheatre from Wednesday, 13 January to Sunday, 17 January. Zip Zap performers are sure to bewitch audiences with their acrobatic, trapeze and contortion skills in their daily performances between 4 to 5pm.

Famous rock classics like you’ve never heard them before will engulf the V&A Amphitheatre on Saturday, 16 January, with party, rock, mash-up act the Rockerfellas taking to the stage at 6.30pm. Known for delivering famous rock classics at lightning speed in unique, mashed-up formats, audiences can expect a lot of smoke on stage, spandex, sing-a-long, and, importantly, fun!

The first Summer Sessions performance of 2016 belongs to Al Bairre, an indie-pop band with a classical twist that will perform at the V&A Amphitheatre on Saturday, 16 January at 6.30pm. Hailing from Cape Town itself, the talented locals combine cello, violin, keys, bass and guitar in their music, creating a sound they call ‘Classic Indie Finger Pop’. Having toured the country and opened for acts like The Hives, Al Bairre received two MK Awards and returned to Cape Town to entertain locals.

The Habitat for Humanity Cyclathon begins at the V&A Amphitheatre on Friday, 29 January at 5pm, finishing a full 25 hours later the following day at 6pm. The proceeds of the hourly raffles will go to the Habitat for Humanity organisation.

FEBRUARY 2016

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival takes over Cape Town in the month of love, with eclectic elements coming to the V&A Waterfront to treat visitors. Jazz Festival CSI Performances will be held at the Amphitheatre throughout February, beginning on Saturday, 6 February from, with a further two performances are on the cards for Saturday, 13 February. All performances are scheduled for 6 to 7pm, with the exception of the performance on Sunday, 28 February, which runs from from 8 to 9pm.

Entertainment from the Cape Town Carnival team continues in February, with Teaser Performances scheduled for Monday, 1 February from 4pm – 5pm, Saturday, 6 February from 4 to 5pm, as well as for Valentine’s Day on Sunday, 14 February, from 6 to 7pm, building up to a Cape Town Carnival Mini Parade from Quay 6 to the Watershed on Saturday, 27 February at 4pm.

The month ends with some musical entertainment from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Arno Carstens at the Amphitheatre. The Youth Wind and Junior Ensembles from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will take to the stage on Saturday, 27 February from 7 to 8pm to rouse audiences with their beautiful symphonies.

The final V&A Summer Sessions performance of the season will see former Springbok Nude Girls singer and current solo artist Arno Carstens rocking out with audiences at the Amphitheatre on Sunday, 28 February from 7pm. Having released an astounding 11 studio albums and shared a stage with international legends such as U2 and the Rolling Stones, audiences can be assured that Carstens knows how to rock n roll.

MARCH 2016

March 2016 will see the V&A Waterfront in the full swing of the Cape Town Carnival spirit, with a Teaser Performance and two Mini Parades on the cards. V&A visitors can enjoy a Teaser Performance at the Amphitheatre Saturday, 5 March, from 6 to 7pm,
