Cruise Nature in Style with Shayamanzi

Cruise nature in style in Shayamanzi's two ultra-luxurious houseboats that ply the waters of beautiful Lake Jozini. With the majestic Lebombo mountains as a backdrop and surrounded by game reserves, this is the perfect setting to take time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience the peacefulness of nature at its best.

Lake Jozini can only be truly appreciated from the vantage point of a house boat and the Shayamanzi houseboats are truly first class hotels on the water.

Guests enjoy a delicious lunch at Jozini Tiger Lodge overlooking the houseboats and Jozini Gorge before embarking for a two to three day cruise.
The boats make their way through the gorge towards the Pongolapoort Dam,providing the first view of the abundant wildlife along the banks. After mooring in the gorge in late afternoon, guests can either head out via on-board tender boats for a closer game viewing or even a tiger fishing experience or simply kick back and enjoy the view over sun downers.

A Shayamanzi houseboat is perfect for those who aren't adventure tourists and don't enjoy long game drives. For nature lovers who do, it provides a whole new perspective.

Because the western and southern banks of Lake Jozini are bordered by the Pongola Nature Reserve and the Pongola Game Reserve, guests enjoy sightings of rhino, elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, hyena, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, warthog, a variety of buck and even a cheetah or a leopard roaming the slopes of the Lebombo mountains.

The muddy plains and reed banks are perfect breeding grounds for water birds with around 350 species for avid birdwatchers including the whistling duck, yellow billed storks, spurwing, cormorants, herons, kingfishers and Africa's iconic fish eagle.

For the more adventurous - seasoned fishermen and beginners alike - Lake Jozini is the only water in South Africa where you find the ferocious fighting Tiger Fish. Tackle and rods are available for hire on the boats.

Cruising in style at up to 9 knots, Shayamanzi passengers enjoy different anchorages each evening. At rest in the gorge, for example, guests can take in the mountains that rise on either side covered in indigenous cycads and ferns. After sun down, the glo-flies make a spectacular show along the shoreline.

The Shayamanzi houseboats are the only ones of their kind in South Africa and come with world class crew ensure delicious meals and plenty of comfort.

Shayamanzi I is a 25 meter by 8 meter, double pontoon houseboat with  6 en-suite cabins and an eight seater Jacuzzi and two tender boats that go out for game viewing and fishing expeditions.

Shayamanzi II is 30 meter by 8.6 meter double pontoon houseboat - a dream cruiser! Spread over three levels are 10 air-conditioned, en-suite cabins plus a 12 seater jacuzzi. Three tender boats are on board for use for game viewing and tiger fishing.

Each cabin is en-suite with shower, basin and toilet. They have mosquito netting, plug points and fans. Guests can also enjoy a 37" LCD screen with DSTV and a  DVD home theatre system as well as on board entertainment.
