Lion of Africa Music Expressions presents Wanda Baloyi – a Jazz songstress for the matured palate

Born and raised in South Africa, KORA Award winner and celebrated performer Wanda Baloyi grew up in a very musical household, around a family who loved and also practiced music in its various forms.

Nurtured by her father, a key influence in her musical journey who is also a well-known African and respected vocalist / musician, Wanda set off to cultivate her own story in the South African musical scene.

She proudly released her first solo album, “Voices” in 2003 to critical acclaim worldwide. The album was produced by award-winning jazz guitarist Jimmy Dludlu, who is also her mentor. She followed it up in 2005 with her eagerly anticipated second album, "So Amazing”.

The album "Voices" earned her a KORA Award for Best African Arrangement in 2004 along with two SAMA nominations and a Channel O music video nomination in 2005 and 2006. These accolades opened new doors in her musical career and progression as an artist. Wanda’s work is truly inspired and exudes her love of diversity, her cultural origins and clear outlook on being a young African artist.

Her creative collaborations are as diverse as Moreira Chonguiça and Thembi Seete, amongst others.

In 2009, Wanda released her third solo project with Universal Music, a sultry jazz and fusion album titled “Colours”. The well-received album’s release was followed by a three-year gap during which a curious and independent Wanda began an intensive journey toward studying business and the exploring her growing love of it.
