first on public holiday, before their national release
If you haven’t yet decided how
you will be spending Heritage Day on 24 September, Ster-Kinekor has some
special treats in store for the whole family at its cinemas countrywide. South
Africa’s favourite cinema chain is giving you the chance to catch exclusive pre-release
screenings of two upcoming blockbuster titles on the public holiday, before
their national release. Grab your friends and family, and be among the first to
catch these films on Ster-Kinekor’s big screens.
If you are an IMAX® fan, don’t
miss the chance to see the much-anticipated The Equalizer,
starring Denzel Washington. It will be screened at Ster-Kinekor’s IMAX theatres
at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Durban and The Grove in Pretoria East for two
shows only - 17:00 and 20:00 – on Wednesday, 24 September.
For the younger members of the
family, they can enjoy Planes 2: Fire and Rescue in 3D, which has
special pre-screenings at all Ster-Kinekor release sites across all show times
for the public holiday. Darren Simpson, one of South Africa’s favourite
comedians, radio personalities and host of the 94.7 Breakfast Xpress, is the
voice of ‘Drip’, one of five firefighters called The Smokejumpers, in the
movie! Be sure to listen out for Darren’s unmistakable voice in his first role
for a Disney animated film.
Before or after watching this
adventurous sequel, the youngsters can enjoy fun activations including games
and colouring-in activity sheets, at some of the participating Ster-Kinekor
cinemas. Wonderful Planes 2: Fire & Rescue merchandise and
prize hampers are also up for grabs. The cinema activations take place on
Wednesday, 24 September, at the following Ster-Kinekor cinemas: The Zone,
Carnival City and Cradlestone in Johannesburg; Brooklyn Mall and Forest Hill in
Pretoria; Gateway in Durban; and Blue Route and Cavendish in Cape Town.
SYNOPSES OF THE FILMS:
In The Equalizer,
Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his
death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed
retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloƫ Grace Moretz), he finds himself
face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters.
As he serves vengeance against
those who brutalise the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If
someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them and they have nowhere
else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.
The film is directed by
Antoine Fuqua and stars Bill Pullman, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Denzel
Washington, Marton Csokas and Melissa Leo. It carries a 16L classification and
the running time is 2hrs and 12mins.
The Equalizer releases
nationally on Friday, 26 September, and will show in Ster-Kinekor IMAX cinemas

Planes 2: Fire & Rescue
(3D) is a new comedy-adventure about second chances. It features a dynamic
crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting the historic Piston
Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty
(voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race
again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial
firefighting.
Dusty joins forces with
veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team,
including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift
helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave
all-terrain vehicles, including Drip, known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the
fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to
become a true hero.
Planes 2: Fire & Rescue in
3D has a running time of 1hr, 24mins.
