Chef
Thuli wowed celebrities and journalists alike yesterday at Tsogo Sun's
chocolate extravaganza Woman's Month event at the Punchinello’s deck at
Southern Sun Montecasino.
Guests
were treated to chocolate martinis and chocolate milkshakes on arrival and
walked onto the deck to a decadent chocolate display. Even the hot food was chocolate themed.
The
event was an opportunity for guests to meet some of Tsogo Sun’s phenomenal
female GMs and Chefs.

Thuli
Mabunda – Sous Chef Pastry – Southern Sun Montecasino
Who would have thought
that a waitressing job could lead to a wonderful career? Well, in the early
years working as a waitress at Gallagher Estate, Thuli Mabunda became
fascinated with the various chefs - watching them as they wield
their magic. When she was approached to be part of a Tsogo Sun
learnership programme in the pastry kitchen at the Southern Sun & Towers
hotel, she grabbed the opportunity with both hands and has never looked back!
Upon completion of the
learnership programme. Thuli gained more experience as a junior Sous Chef
before joining one of Tsogo Sun’s flagship hotels, the Southern Sun Montecasino
as the Sous Chef Pastry, where she is now wielding magic of her own and
training other students.
Thuli believes that
opportunities should be grabbed with both hands and that life is too short to
spend your days doing what you don’t enjoy. Her signature dish is a passion
fruit mousse dessert with Lindt chocolate cake and orange sauce reduction.
Clearly a women with
much ambition and creativity, Thuli would have liked to be a chemical engineer
or a famous holiday singer, if the urge to be a Chef wasn’t so strong!
