Celebrate fine wining and dining at “Coastal Living Bru”

The extremely popular Coastal Living Bru Food and Wine Exhibition (July 1-3) returns to La Montagne Resort in Ballito and promises to be a smorgasbord of sensory experiences.

Coastal Living Bru forms part of the Mr Price Pro Ballito, an international surfing competition and beach and lifestyle festival (June 30 to July 6) that offers families plenty of fun in the sun with activities like extreme sports, beach action, a surfing competition, free music concerts and retail delights.

"The Coastal Living Bru Food & Wine Exhibition is back again and this year we will be ‘testing the elements’ as we unpack an exciting programme showcasing the culinary talents of Pro and Amateur Chefs. Perhaps you will even spot your favourite celebrity chef! We will be presenting local flavour and flare with an abundance of Food and Brew Artisans exhibiting their wares and of course, let's not forget about our exquisite wine tastings and a wine auction. Models will strut the catwalk in our daily fashion shows culminating in a new innovative designer show. This is just a little taster of what's to come, so we encourage all to come along and join us for some wining & dining al fresco style on the shores of the beach at La Montagne Resort," said KwaDukuza municipality events co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.

The extremely popular, “Fleur Du Cap So You think you can cook Ballito Style?” returns for another tightly contested battle between some of KZN’s best professional and amateur chefs. Eight teams will test their culinary and creative skills to produce a mouthwatering dish combining mystery box ingredients with one of the five elements of fire, water, wood, metal, or earth. The tough panel of celebrity judges will decide which teams proceed through the two elimination rounds (July 1 and 2) to the final round on July 3 to win the coveted title of Mr Price Pro Ballito Chef and the grand prize.

Kids have a chance to be in the midst of all the cooking action too at this year’s Coastal Living Bru event. Twelve aspiring young chefs will be paired together with students from the International Hotel School to compete for amazing prizes at the “Fine Young Cooks Awards”.

Added to this year’s varied programme is the new and exciting baking contest, the Ballito Cake Boss Competition. Spurred on by a sweet desire for baked goods Ballito’s best cake bosses will don an apron to create and decorate a cake depicting one of the five elements.

If you’re hungering after quality cuisine then the Artisan Food & Beverage Market at the Food and Wine Exhibition is an experience worth tasting. With stalls focusing on quality home-grown and organic produce foodies can have the opportunity to sample the best culinary delights of the North Coast. Added to the food extravaganza will be restaurants stalls, a coffee showcase, a Cognac and Whiskey Lounge and wine tasting from a variety of of Cape Legends Wine Estates.

Wine connoisseurs are in for a treat with a dedicated wine showcase and auction. Some of the country’s best premium bottles and vintages will be on auction on July 2 with proceeds going to the RedCap Foundation. As the official Corporate Social Investment Project of the surfing and lifestyle event the RedCap Foundation has a mission to engage, enable and inspire South Africa’s youth and works into the unemployment, education and health space.

And if fashion is the flavour of your life then Coastal Living Bru has the perfect recipe, a three day fashion extravaganza. The fun fashion event will kick off with a fashion show coordinated by 2013 Mrs Durban, Karen Landman. Spectators will also have a chance to pick their favourite Miss Ballito Contestant when the glittering ladies grace the catwalks. Last year’s Miss Ballito winner Shelley Buckle will also be making a special appearance at the first class event. All three fashion show nights will be choreographed by the award winning designer, choreographer, stylist and model scout Kevin Ellis.

So head on down to the Coastal Living Bru Food & Wine Exhibition if you have an appetite for fine wining, dining and spectacular entertainment.
