The Wedding Expo® Inspires

Most engaged couples are enthusiastic about their wedding plans (the brides-to-be especially!), so it is not surprising that The Wedding Expo® attracted more than 12 000 visitors to  the Coca-Cola dome in Northgate, Johannesburg on the weekend of 5 and 6 April.

Highlights of the twice-yearly show included the Cake Challenge competition, sponsored by Philips and Yuppiechef, which saw 36 themed wedding cakes on display. The winner of the professional category was by Cakes by Pat who took the Best Overall Cake, Best Decorated Cake and Best Tasting Cake trophies. In the novice category, it was The Red Velvetier who walked off with the Best Overall and Best Decorated Cake trophies, while Pink & Cinnamon scooped the Best Tasting Cake award.

The competition to win wedding prizes was also huge success with eight lucky bridal couples going home with fabulous gifts, such as spa weekends, wedding photography and wedding gowns, from various sponsors.

The more than 300 spectacular exhibitor stands were as unique as the companies that designed them and as individual as each bride-to-be who visited them. Photographers displayed their work in picture-perfect ways, cake makers tempted visitors with decadent creations (and the smell of chocolate!), while dress designers offered beautiful wedding gowns for all.  Make-up artists were on hand as well to suggest wonderful looks for the time of day, location and season.

Delicious sweet treats from the various cake exhibitors were sampled at the Cake @ The Wedding Expo® Café. Options included baked cheesecake with white rosewater ganache and toffee crunch and double death by chocolate cupcakes!

Then there were the wedding venues which provided future brides and grooms with a wide range of locations at which to say “I do” – everything from beach, mountain and wine farm to beautiful bush locations (who wouldn’t want to take their vows under a vast African sky?).
Décor specialists styled luxurious table displays, ranging in theme from contemporary to modern romantic, which definitely inspired visitors to dream big for their own special day!

The Wedding Expo® bridal fashion shows were once again a spectacular draw-card, featuring fabulous wedding gowns in different styles, colours and finishes. Guys were catered for too by quality menswear suppliers who know that looking good on one’s wedding day is just as important to the groom.
Fashion exhibitors on the runway included Gerald C, New Romantics, Garnish, L’Affaire Bridal, F Wilson Couture, Shifting Sands and Sun Goddess on the local SA designer show. Imported, ready-to-wear labels were showcased by the likes of Bride&Co and Eurosuit, Bridal Manor, Bridal Wardrobe, Olivelli, Pronovias and Mel & Tills Couture Holdings. There was amazing bridesmaid inspiration from Gelique and Forever New too!

The Wedding Expo® happens again on the weekend of 6 and 7 September 2014 at the Coca-Cola dome, Northgate, Johannesburg. If you’re planning your big day, don’t miss this chance to meet hundreds of fantastic wedding suppliers and service providers under one roof – everyone from caterers and confectioners to florists, décor specialists, event planners, jewellers, bridal wear experts, stationers, travel specialists and more.
