About Rietvlei 

Rietvlei Zoo Farm is a beautiful farm that is located in the South of Johannesburg and offers a wide range of recreation, education, sport and family outdoor activities. The Picnic Park lapas/braai areas and Rietvlei Trails are set in the most tranquil settings on the farm, surrounded by natural wetlands, large willow and oak trees and beautiful gardens and lawns, where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine and outdoors.


Rietvlei Zoo Farm’s Picnic Park is the perfect place to have a family, group or school for a picnic or braai, kids birthday party, school outing, social, team-building or company functions! There is an entrance fee payable to enter the Picnic Park as a day visitor. Activities include farmyard, bird aviary, pony rides, tractor rides, steam train rides, mini zipline, jungle gyms and edu-talks. Bring your picnic baskets, camping chairs, tables, umbrella/gazebo and picnic blanket and come enjoy a day of fun and relaxation! Benches are limited and available on a first-come-first-serve basis. For your party or event, you can book and hire a venue from a choice of twenty-one Lapas and four Terraces in the picnic area or two Halls (venue hire). All our venues are self-catering and you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks, décor and extra entertainment or team building activities. You can picnic or bring your own braai or hire a drum braai from the farm office.



Rietvlei Zoo Farm has many outdoor sports, fitness and recreation activities on the farm.
Rietvlei Trails offers cycling, walking, running, hiking and cross-country trails.
Rietvlei sports and outdoor activities include: soccer, parkrun, obstacle course training, women’s boot camp, fitness gym, hip-hop dancing, drama classes, kickboxing, golf driving range, yoga, horse outrides, 500m zipline and fishing.
Other operators/activities on the farm include: nursery, cycle shop, driving school, carwash, thatching, horse product store, barber shop, and a choice of seven restaurants/coffee shop/take-away venues (eateries).
Rietvlei Zoo Farm is home to Grace Trinity School for Girls and St. Declans School for Boys.
