Dullstroom Winter Festival reinvents itself for what is set to
be the beginning of an intimate arts festival feel to this bespoke festival.
2016 promises something new for Dullstroom Winter festival with the festival moving to the second weekend of July for the first time ever, this year the event will also be broken down into smaller style events that showcase all there is to see in this town of wonder. The program has moved to small shows over the 3 days, with Stephane Maree playing a free show at Wild about Whiskey on Friday night as an early warmup and Coelacanth making their triumphant return to Dullstroom at the new Coachman. Saturday will feature a lunch show with The Sextons at the Mayfly Restaurant, and then the biggest show of the weekend kicks off at 3pm at Highland Gate Golf Club with Georgetown and Blues Legend Gerald Clark. Just as you thought it is done, the afterparty kicks off at the Poacher with Bright Lights Big City. Sunday lets you wind down with Michael Canfield at The Cherry Grove Piazza and leaves enough time to make it back home. Georgetown is a band that consists of a couple of friends from Pretoria that started out in the early months of 2014. They describe their music as old time hillbilly music with instruments ranging from Mandolin, Ukulele, Double Bass, Melodica, Banjolin, Saxophones, Clarinet and not to mention the 1950's percussion suitcase, calls for fantastic and high energy live performances. They do historic folk and bluegrass songs but also their own renditions of modern pop songs with their signature old school southern sound to really get that 'footstompin' going. Gerald Clark is an accomplished South African musician recognised for his extraordinary ability to tell a story with his music. He is one of SA’s top musicians – a singer and songwriter famous for his voice that can get down to the soul and honesty that consists within the blues. AfroBoer & the GoldenGoose – his 4th album recorded in an old farmhouse – shared his dynamic musical ideas with attentive ears. It’s raw, it’s blues, it’s rock, it’s a piece of his honesty. The diversity within this album will shake your bones and burn your toes. Hilltop Live and Dullstroom Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Century Properties, Highland Gate Golf Club, Tonteldoos, Midrand Jaguar and Land Rover for their contributions and making this event possible. |
