LOBOLA WINES  - CREATED TO CELEBRATE UNITY
AMOUNGST ALL SOUTH AFRICANS

Lobola is the tradition in many African cultures that associated with the joining of two families through marriage.
A prospective husband (or head of the family) will present the prospective wife’s family with the promise of a ‘gift’ as a sign of respect and appreciation for raising their daughter as a suitable wife, and allowing her to join the husband’s family. The actual gift is traditionally agreed between the families and can be either cattle or cash.
Lobola is in essence the celebration of the union of two families and is widely practiced and respected. Even our beloved Madiba referred to the transfer of Elephants between the South African and Mocambican National Parks as Lobola for his wife Graça Machel.
WHY LOBOLA?
Taillard Family Wines wanted to create a brand that was dedicated to all South Africans who, like them, believe that it is our diversity that makes us unique, but that it is our unity that is worth celebrating.  What better way than to do this by creating a brand that not only recognises, but also celebrates, a tradition that is truly African.
The Taljaard family is rooted in South Africa and passionate about their wines and they believe that good wine should be shared with good company, and that the culture of celebration should be extended to include all South Africans.
Lobola, by Taillard Family Wines, has been created to echo the sentiment of celebration and unity amongst all South Africans by providing a wine of distinction that recognises and pays respect to something that is an integral part of the culture of our beautiful country.
CONVINCING TEDDY
Teddy Hall, their highly acclaimed wine maker, was asked to create two wines of exceptional quality that would not only be worthy of the Lobola name, but that would be a testament to the passion that the Taillard Family have for their wines.
Teddy, loving a challenge, created a beautiful Cabernet/Shiraz and an equally elegant Chardonnay/Chenin to carry the name.  He did however cautiously voice his scepticism, but trusted the passion for the concept.
This scepticism quickly turned to optimism and excitement when the wine was shown at the Juliet Cullinan wine show.  The wine created some very lively conversation between South Africans of all walks of live – living up to its aim of Celebrating Unity.
THE LOBOLA RANGE
At the very top of the range is a handcrafted box made from the Oak Barrels that once housed the wines from which Lobola was created.  This is a limited edition gem, and is only made to order.  They can be personalised to commemorate the special event for which they are intended.  A real collectors’ piece
In the same style as the limited edition range there is a velvet lined black and oak box that houses one or two bottles of Lobola wines.  For corporate gifting or special functions these can be branded according to the client’s requirements and needs.
Slightly less serious but equally elegant is the velvet and satin embroidered wine bags.  These will add a touch of style to any occasion and/or cellar.
Care and integrity went into the design of the Lobola wines especially the labels and right down to the inclusion of braille on the back of the bottles. This special wine will add a touch of class and culture to any event – with or without packaging.
