Bavarian Motorcycles
and Peter de la Rey - Victory Once Again
History was made this past weekend at Tarlton International Raceway, when Bavarian Motorcycles sponsored drag racer, Peter de la Rey, took his third SA Drag Racing Championship title on his BMW S1000RR.
Even though 2014 was a challenging year for the veteran drag racer, he managed to overcome all the obstacles in order to focus on what’s important…having fun and of course winning. “The problem is that hick-ups and set-backs distract my focus and I have to try and put it in the back of my head as soon as possible,” says De la Rey.
De la Rey never dropped out of the top three spot in all six rounds of this year’s Drag Race Championships, and managed to finish every race with a podium position. Just before the final two rounds the Drag Racing Champion had achieved a five point lead, which placed extra pressure on him and his Bavarian Motorcycles sponsored BMW S1000RR motorcycle to perform at their best in rounds five and six.
The heat was on at the final round of the SA Drag Racing Championship which took place on Sunday 26th of October at Tarlton International Raceway near Krugersdorp. “The last event put huge pressure on us and the only way of winning the championship was to qualify in the top three as well as winning the event,” said De la Rey. By winning round six, he managed to achieve the number one position on the points scale, with 219 points and overall victory.
“We are as always delighted with Peter’s performance, he has become a part of the Bavarian Motorcycles family and we are overjoyed with his success,” says Sharon Smith, Marketing Manager at Bavarian Motorcycles in Centurion.
Bavarian Motorcycles is honoured to be associated with a racer of Peter de la Rey’s calibre and is proud of both De la Rey and his BMW S1000RR for their outstanding performance and showmanship through-out the 2014 Drag Racing season.
