The maker of The Free
Electric Band is coming to Carnival City
The
legendary singer and songwriter Albert Hammond – the maker of the legendary hit
The Free Electric Band – is touring South Africa in October
and will make a stop in Gauteng for one performance at The Big Top Arena,
Carnival City on the 12th.
The
Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee will bring the stage to life, performing hits
from throughout his music career as well as some new material from his latest
album, Legend II. With a music career
spanning more than 50 years, Hammond – known for songs like The Peacemaker and It Never Rains in Southern California – has a spectacular show in
store for fans.
“Expect to
hear all his timeless hits, including beloved ballades like When I need You and The Air That I Breathe. It’s going to be a truly magnificent sing
and sway-along experience,” says Carnival City’s Entertainment Manager, Jaco
Saaiman.
Hammond
has been a chart-topping singer and songwriter for over 40 years. What sets him
apart as a songwriter, is that he doesn’t just write hits—he writes classics.
He is one of very few songwriters of our time whose songs not only have the
mass appeal to make them pop hits, but whose very same songs also have the
timelessness and depth that over time turns them into standards. Few writers
can successfully walk this line and deliver hits for the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and
today.
His
music has universal appeal, with his songs repeatedly topping the international
pop, R&B, country, adult contemporary and Latin charts, sometimes
simultaneously. Among these are hits like When
I Need You, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (nominated for an Oscar, Golden
Globe and Grammy), One Moment In Time,
and To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.
Anthems
like One Moment in Time, which was
written asthe theme song for the 1988 Olympic Games, won Hammond his first Emmy
Award and is just one example of his ability to create lasting theme songs that
live on in the world’s collective consciousness. In 2012, Hammond released his
latest album Legend II in which he
also recorded some of his most recognized songs, and with which he is still
touring.
Tickets to
his show at Carnival City are priced from R250 and are available via
Computicket.
