In 2001, Woodland School in Magaliesberg approached Cellar Rats Wine Tasting Club to assist them with an annual fund raising event, and the Cellar Rats Spring Wine Festival was born.
Since then the Cellar Rats Spring Wine Festival has
become a major draw card for weekend-tourism to the Magaliesberg area. Drawing 2500+
visitors & participants, mostly from Johannesburg and the surrounds - but some from as far as Botswana & Cape
Town - the family festival seeks to promote an ethos of "good
living".
This family festival is held at the historic “Old Mill", on the banks of the picturesque Magalies River, approx. 35 minutes from Jhb's Northern Suburbs. The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, and visitors are encouraged to stretch out and enjoy the lush green lawns, shady trees and cool spring breeze, whilst enjoying some of the finest wines South Africa has to offer.

Woodland
school is a non-subsidised, non-profit rural school in Magaliesburg. This
community run school was established in 1999. Since its inception Woodland
School has been able to keep the school fees affordable for the local community
by running fundraisers and appealing for donations. The school has a bursary
system and at the moment we support a number of children on two different
bursary schemes.
The
school arranges 3 fundraisers every year. The purpose of these fundraisers is
to support the development of the school. Projects we have tackled in the past
include building new classrooms, building a new toilet block, equipping a
modern computer centre, stocking a library and leveling a sport and athletics
field. The school has also been able to buy very good textbooks and readers for
the children at the school. All of these projects would have been impossible to
tackle without fundraising money. The results of our fundraising has had a
major effect on the overall educational experience for the children at our
school.
