STUDENTS WALK THE TALK IN AID OF FELLOW STUDENTS 15 Wits students are set to walk 1000km to raise funds for bursaries The higher education sector is facing challenging times with student funding at the centre of student protests. In light of the challenges around access to funding, 15 courageous students will embark on a 1000km walk to raise funds to assist their peers. The walk/campaign named, Feet4Fees will see students attempt to walk from Wits University , with a number of ambassadors (hikers), and support vehicles, to Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth. The walk begins on 1 December 2016 and participants aim to arrive in Port Elizabeth on 20 December 2016 .   How to contribute There are mainly three options, but any other form of support will be appreciated: 1. KNOX TO RACE ROCKY MOUNTAIN BIKES IN 2017   South Africa’s leading marathon mountain bike racer, Max Knox, will race on Rocky Mountain bikes in 2017. The 29-year-old Knox won both the South African marathon championship and the Ashburton Investment National Marathon Series in 2016 and has set his sights on an expanded racing programme in 2017. Rocky Mountain is a Canadian-based international bicycle brand, which has been producing premium performance mountain bikes since 1981. It has achieved international success in various forms of mountain bike racing over the past 35 years, including overall victory in the inaugural Absa Cape Epic in 2004. SWISS SWEEP TOP TITLES AT NISSAN TRAILSEEKER FINALE Konny Looser and Ariane Lüthi won the men and women’s marathons respectively to score a Swiss sweep of the top titles at the final round of the Nissan TrailSeeker Western Cape Series at Bosman Family Vineyards, Wellington at the weekend. Both Looser (BIXS) and Lüthi (Team Spur) base themselves in the Western Cape for most of the European winter and are familiar with many of the trails, particularly in the Wellington region where they have contested recent Absa Cape Epic stages. But the strong winds and high temperatures made for challenging conditions over the 65km race, which included a high volume of singletrack.
